Horror Film Lighting Effect

I, personally love horror films and find them very scary (I know you do too). Well those horror posters also seem yellowish, gory, and sickening.  This tutorial will show you how to create a dark ominous lighting effect from an ordinary image. You can now frighten your friends and create your own horror film!

Steps to follow:

Step one:

Open any favorite picture of yours in Photoshop. Let us assume a picture of a woman here.

Step two:

Now go to layer menu and choose ‘Duplicate Layer’.

Step Three:

Now Press Ctrl+Shift+U key on the keyboard. You may also choose Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. This will convert your picture into black and white mode.

Step four:

Once the picture has been converted in to black and white mode it is time to set the opacity. Visit the layer palette, choose opacity and bring it to 50%.

Step five:

Choose Layer > Duplicate Layer, and after that choose Linear Light from blending mode in layers palette, and set opacity to 87%. Look at the picture below!

Step six:

Here you need to create a new layer. Under foreground color, set this color as #443D3D. Now take the Paint Bucket Tool (G) and click on the picture to fill it. You may also use a keyboard shortcut (Alt+Backspace).

Step seven:

Now go to Layers palette and choose Overlay under blending mode. Set the Opacity to 87%.

Step eight:

Choose Filter > Noise > Add Noise.

Set the options via checking the Gaussian and Monochromatic button. Also set the amount to 45%.

Step nine:

Choose Filter > Stylize > Solarize.

Step ten:

Choose Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels. Thereafter, set the channel to RGB and input levels to 88, 0.73 and 230 respectively. Also set the output to 0 and 255 respectively.

Step eleven:

Choose Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves, and set the color options to RGB and Input to 204 and Output to 147.

Step twelve:

Now choose Layer >Adjustment Layer > Color Balance, and then set color levels as +62, +82 and -100. Select the Midtones button and check the Preserve luminosity option.

Finally, our work looks like this:
